About IMD

Architecture with its own identity

IMD was founded in 1986 and, until 2007, was active as a consulting, architectural and training bureau in the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.
The architecture bureau, IMD Design, became independent in mid 2007 and has an establishment in Aruba since 2001: IMD Aruba.     Specialization in interior architecture and the preference for a combination of modern international and local architecture brought architects Anko van der Woude and Mike Koch together in 1993.

The architecture bureau is now one of the largest in Curaçao. Projects can also be executed on the other Antillean islands and Aruba. IMD Design consists of 2 architect partners and some 8 architects and architectural assistants.

IMD Design is well known for its ability to combine modern construction styles with characteristic classical tropical architecture.

Well known projects like the ‘Maritime Museum’, ‘Hotel Kura Hulanda’, ‘Papagayo Beach Resort’, ‘Curoil Head Office, the ‘Avila Beach Hotel’ extension and several private houses demonstrate dedicated expertise and the art of detailing.

Commissions can be realized from the sketch plan stage through to their realization, including cost estimates, management and supervision.
